If you need to apply for Medicare because you're turning 65 or disabled you have 3 ways to do it:

The Part D Low Income Subsidy or "Extra Help" from Social Security. This is a program for people who have Medicare and lower income and resources so they may get help paying for prescriptions. The application also includes a feed to Michigan Medicaid where you can have the State of Michigan look at also paying for your Part B premium for Medicare which is usually automatically deducted from your monthly Social Security benefit.
The Michigan Medicaid button can be used to apply with the State of Michigan for Medicaid. People who are "full benefit dual eligible for both Medicare & Medicaid can get special plans and benefits. People who are under age 65 and not disabled can get Healthy Michigan Medicaid if their income is below 133% of Federal Poverty Level.
Otherwise they can apply for health coverage through the Federally Facilitated Marketplace during open enrollment or if they have a qualifying life event. If their income is between 133 and 400% of Federal Poverty Level they can also get an advance premium tax credit to help with the monthly cost.
If their income is over 400% of federal poverty level they can save about 18% by buying a high quality silver plan direct from the carrier "off marketplace".
Priority Health also offers affordable short-term insurance for up to 6 months for people who are outside of an available election period.
